Don’t Miss ‘The Bulletin’

imageAlthough, ultimately, only a turning of our nation to God will prevent the further erosion of our Christian heritage, most of us believe it is wrong simply to allow the process to continue without protest. It is still true that ‘Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people’ (Proverbs 14:34). The recent victory in the case of the proposed ‘religious hatred’ legislation has reminded us that we can make a difference, and of the continual opportunity and need for vigilance and appropriate action by evangelical churches in connection with social and public policy issues.

In facing up to these challenges, Affinity’s Social Issues Team has launched what we believe will be an essential tool for Bible-centred churches. Entitled The Bulletin, the first edition appeared on 1st March and is available as a PDF booklet which can be downloaded free of charge from the Affinity website. Hard copies, for which an appropriate charge will be made, can be ordered through the Affinity office.

The Bulletin’s content will cover the implications for evangelical Christians and churches of proposed legislation and other government policy intentions. In some instances it will also provide background information about the history of a topic, and identify the biblical principles at stake. Where appropriate, it will also comment on how churches and individuals can respond to the issues of the moment. The Bulletin will also contain news of progress on government Consultations and proposed legislation.

We very much hope that churches will regularly provide sufficient copies of The Bulletin for their congregations to be kept informed of current concerns. Our gratitude must go to the Editor, Rod Badams – a man whose relentless commitment to monitoring the government’s social and public policy agenda is a constant source of wonder to the SIT, and can not have gone unnoticed in Whitehall!
