Why are so few men coming forward for pastoral ministry?

In the summer of 2005, a nationwide survey was conducted by Generation Next. Its aim was to give young men a voice in the current debate amongst Christian leaders about the reasons why so few men are coming forward for full-time pastoral ministry. The survey was completed by 400 men who answered questions on a range of issues connected with full-time ministry.

The comprehensive report, published in February 2007, is now available from the Generation Next website. It makes a compelling read because it represents the collective voice of a broad cross-section of tomorrow’s Church leaders. It highlights many areas for further consideration, but above all demonstrates that young men have a heart to serve the church if given the opportunity.

By visiting the website you can download the full report and join in a discussion forum about its findings. This should be of concern and interest to all of us.
