Thought of the Day – Thursday

Each morning this week, Graham Nicholls, our Director, is offering the Thought of the Day on Premier Christian Radio and Premier Praise. You can hear the Thought of the Day around 7.20am on Premier Christian Radio and 7.40am on Premier Praise.

Here is the text of what Graham shared this morning:

A child of God doesn’t want to sin

In John’s first letter, chapter 3, he talks about how it doesn’t make any sense if we’re following Jesus and we want to carry on doing things that are wrong and that don’t please him.

John says, “My dear children, this is not who you are”.

Jesus didn’t sin so why would you want to carry on sinning?

Jesus came to take away your sin. He hung there on that cross so your criminal record would get wiped clean. So why would you think it doesn’t matter? It mattered so much to him that the Son of God had to die so you would not want to sin.

John gets even more serious when he says, “Don’t act like a child of the devil, because Jesus came to destroy the work of the devil” (verses 7-8).

So John’s big point is: be who you are as a child of God, becoming more like Christ.

This is how it works: the children of God show the family likeness; we get ready for what we will be by being who we are now. Holiness is not about following a set of rules but it’s an expression of who we are in Christ.

How will you be who you are today? Are there things in your life that need to change?
