Resource Paper 12: Good practice for pastoral visits by church leaders to missionaries overseas
Pastoral visits by church leaders to missionaries during their overseas service are recommended from a number of points of view and benefit both the missionary and the church.
The paper enlarges on the purposes to be served by such visits including the following:
- Encouragement for the missionary
- A demonstration that the church has a vital interest in the ministry
- An opportunity to provide a listening ear and bring to bear a scriptural perspective on challenges being experienced
- An opportunity to discern the spiritual, emotional and physical health of the missionary
- An opportunity for the church to understand the ministry of the missionary and the cultural context of the work
- Facilitation of ongoing support and informed prayer for the missionary
