Resource Paper 8: Good practice for churches commissioning members for long-term missionary service
This statement of good practice is designed to assist churches commissioning members for long-term cross-cultural missionary service. It details 5 values that should undergird the process and then outlines the following 5 aspects of the process:
- General considerations
- Training and orientation
- Support by the sending church
- Placement and care during the assignment
- Periodic guidance and re-entry support
It then presents a check list for each of the following 4 phases of the process. Together, these check lists enable church leaders to monitor 27 processes or factors that should have attention:
- Early considerations
- On contact with a mission agency
- During overseas service
- On return to the UK
