In this submission we have concentrated on the subject areas which are of particular concern to our churches – either because the issues cover biblical principles which we wish passionately to uphold, or because the practical implications of present discrimination law, or potential changes to it, will have a significant impact upon their liberties or activities.
This does not mean that we regard other matters covered by the discrimination law review as unimportant, but that we believe it will be more helpful to the Review Team if we focus on those issues upon which we have the strongest convictions, or which will impinge most upon our experience.
We understand that the government’s goals in this Review are to clarify, simplify and standardise various elements of discrimination law. In considering ways of achieving this, it is inevitable that various queries will emerge with regard to deficiencies or inconsistencies in existing discrimination legislation, and our submission will point out some of these.
