Kemi Badenoch is appointed the new Minister for Faith

Statement from Graham Nicholls, Director of Affinity on the appointment of Kemi Badenoch:

“We welcome the appointment of Kemi Badenoch, the Conservative MP for Saffron Walden, as the new Minister for Faith, a post previously held by Lord Greenhalgh.

“It is good that the government recognises the importance of faith groups – for the social work they do and how they help build community and social cohesion. Such an appointment also acknowledges the necessity of including faith issues in public square discussion and debate.

“Historically, Bible-believing Christianity has been a major factor in shaping the values, principles and laws that govern our life as a nation. And in the present day evangelical Christians in many vibrant, active churches across the United Kingdom continue to exercise a commendable influence for good in their communities.

“The Covid pandemic inevitably increased the contact between churches and government as restrictions were brought in and then eased, and we trust that this constructive dialogue will continue as Ms Badenoch takes up her new brief.

“We want to assure the new minister of our prayers for her as she begins this new role and look forward to positive and fruitful engagement with her in the future.”
