Responding to the Draft Conversion Practices Bill

Written by Graham Nicholls

The Draft Conversion Practices Bill is being examined by a committee of MPs and Peers and they have invited submissions from the public.

The Bill creates a far-reaching criminal offence which would affect conversations, spiritual guidance, or prayers. Under the very broad wording of the Bill these, along with all kinds of other legitimate conversations, might be deemed “abusive” and “harmful” attempts to change what a person believes to be their sexual orientation or gender identity. This could criminalise the everyday conversations of Christian parents and the normal work of pastors and church workers.

There is a brief window of opportunity to submit your own views to the committee using the link here. A very useful guide from the Christian Institute can be downloaded here .

The deadline is 5pm on Monday 16 November and we would encourage you to:

  • Submit a response yourself;
  • Share with people in your church or organisation or email lists, and encourage them to submit something;
  • Pray that this awful bill would be derailed and encourage others to do the same.
