The Autumn 2026 edition of the Social Issues Bulletin is available

Freedom Worth Fighting For
The latest Social Issues Bulletin (Issue 62, Autumn 2026), published by Affinity’s Social Issues Team,
presents four articles that explore issues connected to warfare.
Tim Dieppe’s article (p. 5) on Christian pacifism considers whether or not Christians can ever support or be involved in violence on behalf of the state. He examines approaches to war found in the Old and New Testaments, the Early Church and C.S. Lewis, concluding by arguing that the burden of proof for pacifism lies firmly with the pacifist.
Martin Gliniecki’s first article (p. 13) explores how SASRA’s mission – which is to spread the saving knowledge of Christ among serving personnel – particularly complements the moral component of the Ministry of Defence’s understanding of both fighting power and military capability.
Martin Gliniecki’s second article (p. 17) considers how the changing character of war affects the moral component of fighting power and, in asking our troops to fight, how we should also prepare them for the realities of war, so that they do the right thing and are less likely to be traumatised by the aftereffects of conflict.
Jeremy Peckham’s article (p. 24) outlines how a Christian Anthropology informs our thinking on the ethical questions surrounding AI, with particular focus on what AI is and how it compares to human nature. He also consider what the Bible teaches about engaging in war and then discusses how that perspective (together with a biblical understanding of God’s nature as well as the International Conventions on The Laws of Armed Conflict) form a basis for resolving some of the ethical dilemmas surrounding the development and the use of AI in weapons.
Alongside these four articles, we also include an update from The Christian Institute about some of their recent cases (p. 36) as well as Dr Calum MacKellar’s latest review of current bioethics issues (p. 38).
Download the Social Issues Bulletin, packed with analysis and practical implications – a must-read for Christians seeking to engage boldly yet wisely in today’s world.
