Prosecuting Parents and Pastors
On Thursday 23 January 2025 we jointly hosted a webinar on Government plans for a ‘conversion therapy’ law with The Christian Institute. You can watch the recording here.
The Westminster Government is expected to publish its draft conversion therapy Bill for England and Wales soon. The Scottish Government has asked Westminster to legislate on its behalf, and there is a possibility the legislation might also apply to Northern Ireland.
The proposed law is not about tackling genuine abuse – since that is already illegal – but about criminalising the expression of certain opinions. Prayer, pastoral conversations, and parental guidance are all at risk.
Activists want the criminal law to force people to affirm their ideology. They want to prevent Christians from expressing mainstream, traditional beliefs about sexuality and gender. And they want to stop parents from discouraging their children from gender transition and sexual experimentation.
With so much at stake, it’s crucial we get informed and active now.
