TGC-UK Takes Another Significant Step Forward

The inaugural Forum of The Gospel Coalition UK (TGC-UK) met in June for an outstanding day of fellowship, prayer and discussion about TGC-UK’s formation and flourishing. Those involved had a powerful sense that God was at work in this cultural moment as they prayed about and planned for TGC-UK’s future.

The purpose of TGC-UK is to create and strengthen fellowship links between reformed complementarian churches across geographical, cultural and denominational boundaries. It aims to be a place for:

• sharing stories;
• praying together;
• modelling the beauty of men and women flourishing in their complementary roles;
• and supporting gospel work in the local church by creating trusted resources with deep theological reflection.

Those resources will be like those already on The Gospel Coalition’s main website and media channels, accessed across the world. However, they will be written by British contributors and focused on the UK’s particular gospel needs and opportunities.

Graham Nicholls, also of Affinity and Christ Church Haywards Heath has been appointed as Director of TGC-UK. He said: “I am honoured to be serving in this role to help facilitate the development of TGC-UK as a means of bringing people together to proclaim the gospel, for providing great resources and a forum for grace filled discussion and debate on things that matter. I have seen God’s amazing providence in the way this diverse group has come together so I am excited to see what the Lord will do through our united efforts.”

Other key roles are being assigned in the coming days.

TGC-UK’s short-term aims are to finalise the organisation’s governance, to broaden representation and to begin to gain a profile and raise significant funding.

The Forum (which includes over 40 men and women) has clearly expressed that they want TGC-UK to create a culture of gospel clarity and generosity. They are particularly concerned to avoid any hint of an anti-biblical patriarchalism and instead teach and model complementary roles for men and women – whilst recognising that, within this umbrella of agreement in broad principles, there are differences in practice. We want to We also want to recognise, respect and enable other organisations with clear theological principles for the work we do but open doors for others to benefit and not to seek to control

The Forum also wants TGC-UK to be characterised by humble, fervent, patient, prayer – prayer for the gospel in the UK, for our gospel witness and for our Christ-honouring gospel unity.
